I arrived at 2 Bn. 1st
Marines, "G" Company, Weapons Platoon, in mid Sept 1967. We were
all told of Mahan's service, and that we should aspire to be as good as
we could in his memory.

I saw the story on CNN.com
about The Virtual Wall and was browsing the site. I came to Darrel's
name by searching on my birthday, August 19, 1967. I'm sorry to say it
was the same day as Darrel's death in Vietnam, August 19, 1967.
I'm writing to you in hopes
you can pass along my sincere condolences and gratitude to
Darrel's family. Thank you for service to our country, and the sacrifice
that many generations since that day can enjoy the freedoms it brings.
Kind Regards,
Blaise
