PFC LAWRENCE E. JONES

Lawrence E. Jones, of McKinney, was born September 6, 1945, joined the Army in 1966, and became a paratrooper. In November of 1967, he was sent to Vietnam where he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, also known as the ‘Sky Soldiers,’ whose tactical area of operation was in the Central Highlands. PFC Jones was a participant in the infamous Battle of Kontum, deep in the jungle covered mountains of the Central Highlands. He died on March 3, 1968, at the age of 22 in that fight, and is listed at Panel 42E, Row 52.
